The Alkaline Lifestyle

The Alkaline lifestyle is a way to keep your body in a state of pH balance. Seems to be stirring up more now that people are more aware of keeping the body more healthy. Yet the particular lifestyle/diet was actually discovered back in the 20th century as a form of a diet. But in the 19th century, in France, it was actually when it was associated with the pH balance in the body.

What is the Alkaline Lifestyle?

Let me begin first with what everyone is probably thinking of. What in the world is The Alkaline Lifestyle or simply Alkaline Diet? It all has to do with what we eat. The following fruits are those that have the most Alkaline in them. Let me start with watermelon, cantaloupe, mango, papaya, kiwi, grapes, pears, bananas, pineapples, oranges and tangerines. But there are more that can also be included. The next group are considered neutral: Milk and yogurt as long as they are unsweetened, potatoes and herbs and spices as long as you do not include the following salt, mustard and nutmeg.

Now that I have given you some ideas on the foods you can have; I must also state the ones you should avoid if at all possible. The main one you should already know, yes, processed foods. Those are the worst no matter what diet or healthy lifestyle you follow. Canned and packaged snacks that are so convenient for you are a no no. Unless you read the label carefully. The other foods include eggs, dairy, meat and of course, most grains. All because they have more acidity than alkaline.

  • Usually watermelon is one of the favorites in the summer, because of the hydration benefit and the feeling of coolness it gives us on hot day.

  • Did you know that the vitamins present in cantaloupes helps your eyesight, helps in brain development and helps your immune system get a boost?

  • Bananas are a marvelous low-acid fruit, which neutralizes the acid in the stomach by covering the lining in the esophagus. Another great thing about them is they are rich in pectin (a soluble fiber) which helps food flow in the digestive tract with no problems.

  • I had heard so many incredible benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar. Even though it is acidic, it does balance your pH levels in the body. It has an alkalizing effect which promotes a state of alkaline inside your body.

  • Last but not least, toothpaste is naturally alkaline. Once we finish eating, the food is broken down and creates acid. Therefore to neutralize the acid effect in our mouth, we need to brush our teeth with toothpaste.

In order to increase your Alkaline pH in the body you will need to make some changes in your diet, if you do not already do them. Let us start by making better food and supplement choices which contain the proper vitamins and minerals that our body needs.

Another great idea, which I am sure you know what I will say. It will help if you plan your meals and snacks beforehand but keeping in mind to make them nutritious. If you reduce your sugar and caffeine intake you will benefit tremendously.

An extremely important fact is that you need to keep your meal times about the same time everyday. In order to keep those stubborn blood sugar levels in check. Finally, water is a must in keeping pH balanced. You need to drink at least half your body weight in ounces of water. That would be ideal.

To sum it up, if you follow The Alkaline lifestyle, it just means you eat more fruits and vegetables rather than high calorie and/or high fat choices. Prepared foods will be a no no because of the sodium they contain which in the long run will help your heart be more healthy. It will lower your blood pressure and cholesterol levels as well.

It also means that your food choices will be more good healthy eating. Many people do not want to follow this diet because it takes a lot of sacrifices that most are not willing to change. Things like eating more fruits and vegetables, drinking lots and lots of water, minimizing sugar, processed foods, meat and most of all alcohol intake.
